Apple: Ribston pippin
Ribston pippin is another heirloom variety, probably ancestral to the better-known Cox's orange pippin (this courtesy of orangepippin.com). It's a nice-looking apple, in the old-fashioned way, somewhat irregular and not too huge.
The one I just ate was very nicely crisp and reasonably flavorful. It wasn't as juicy (or as sweet) as a good Macintosh or Gala, but not noticeably tart either.
cattitude got a few of these (and some Macouns) at the Arlington farmers' market yestrday.
