If you feel like giving money to a worthy cause...

A bunch of you know my friend Soren, aka Scraps, and know that he is recovering from a stroke. While he is doing a lot better than he was six months ago, he isn't well enough to work. He's getting Medicaid, and not much beyond that in the way of benefits.

I am therefore putting on my costume as a trustee of the Scraps Reassembly Trust, and posting a Paypal donation button. The trust is for legal purposes, so the donations go for Soren's life expenses rather than to replace the Medicaid money; it's not a charity in any official sense, nor is it tax-deductible. If you're a friend of his and want to help out, cool. If not, also cool: it's not as though you don't have other good things to do with your money.

I'm posting this once and once only; whether or not you give, there will be no follow-up letters. Nor is this a pledge drive, so no tote bags or other free gifts. (OK, if you really want a tote bag, I have a few extras, the only trick being finding a suitable free weekend for you to come pick one up. This offer is not dependent on whether you donate, to this or anything else; is not valid outside the Solar System; and will not be repeated unless someone takes me up on it.)

I figure if I can contribute to help someone move his dogs and cats from Africa to Australia, I can damn well contribute to help out a human being.

I personally wouldn't mind if this reminder came around periodically, but of course that's up to you.

I second this. It's nice to be able to pay forward.

Is there a place to send checks? I don't have a Paypal account, and I've sent a check before.

Thank you. I presume these instructions will be good on an ongoing basis, should I be able to spare more funds down the line?
