vaccine

My mother has now had the COVID vaccine, and has an appointment for the second dose in three weeks.

She sent me articles from two UK Jewish publications, about her being almost certainly the first Holocaust survivor to receive the vaccine, both of which mention her work with the Holocaust Education Trust (which got the photo credit and presumably contacted the press):

ETA: I have sent some of these comments to my mother, and our family and her friends.

Oh, that's so great. And apparently, despite the need for a booster, the first dose does provide some protection.

How wonderful for your mom! I love how matter of fact she is about it.

I've been watching with interest the debate on whether medical care staff and care givers should be given priority and I'm kinda with this fellow, Dr. Joel Zivot, who speaking to NPR said "Right now we're in a point of crisis, and the crisis is death. And we need to stop the dying and stop the dying by vaccinating the kinds of patients that are ending up in the ICU and dying there. And I can wait." -- This is very much how I feel. We'll see how it goes.

I like her attitude, she's got spark. I'm glad she's getting the vaccine in the first run.

I'm tearing up, because it's SO IMPORTANT that we keep our elders around, especiallyly our elders who've lived through things like that.

Gingicat and I chatted about what a personification of hope this is, that your mother survived massive atrocities and is now receiving vaccination against the latest pandemic.

(It is such an enormous boost of hope and relief to see the vaccine rolling out here.)

Yay, this is such good news. And yay Jewish Chronicle doing its proper job of posting fluff articles so that readers can say, ooh, I know that person.

Her story is incredible and I didn't know all of it, so I'm glad to read those articles. And glad they gave her some of the first jabs!

Oh wow, I didn't know your mother was a Holocaust survivor! I mean, yes, many European Jewish people of a certain age were, but I'm pretty sure I didn't know she was one of them.

I took the article from the Jewish News and posted it a few places, saying "This is my friend's mother!".

I don't know if it'll make any difference to anyone, because all of the Jewish people I know are firmly on the side of SCIENCE, but a lot of people have been interested to read it.
