They shouldn't be disappointed in themself, unless they've left the paperwork lying on a table for two months. Though from everything I've heard, I am glad not to have an HOA: I just deal with the people who own the house, and I asked them about air conditioning before deciding to rent the place. (There is a town board of selectmen, and I think rules about renovations to old/historic buildings, but this is just a random 1920s two-family house.)
I'm told HOAs might have Opinions about what counts as a weed in my garden that differ from mine. (Dandelion is a salad green with attractive flowers, and sorrel is a fine ground cover.)
