Disney and Pixar have unveiled the final trailer for Elio, their upcoming animated adventure about a young boy with a vivid imagination who is unexpectedly recruited by an intergalactic organization.

Directed by Madeline Sharafian (Burrow), Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Adrian Molina (Coco), Elio features the voice of Yonas Kibreab as the titular character. “When Elio is beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking,” reads the official description. “Mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.

Other voices include Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, and Shirley Henderson as Ooooo, the liquid supercomputer.

Pixar struggled during the pandemic, with several movies dumped on Disney+ or drastically underperforming in theaters. Thankfully, they had a well-deserved win with Inside Out 2, which received rave reviews and became their highest-grossing movie ever with a worldwide box office of $1.69 billion.

The studio has several big sequels in the works. Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Coco 2 is in the works. “While the film is just in the initial states, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure,” Iger said. “And we can’t wait to share more soon.” Additionally, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and the rest of the gang will return for Toy Story 5. The new sequel is slated for a June 19, 2026 release. The story will see Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs challenged after being introduced to what kids are obsessed with today — electronics. Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, and Joan Cusack are expected to be reprising their roles as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Jessie, respectively. Other members of the voice cast include Ernie Hudson, who will take over the voice of Combat Carl from the late Carl Weathers, and Anna Faris, who has been cast in an undisclosed part. It was also announced last week that Conan O’Brien would be voicing a new character named Smarty Pants.

What did you think of the final trailer for Elio? Will you be watching when it hits theaters on June 20?

For more than a decade, filmmakers David Fincher and Tim Miller tried to push a reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film Heavy Metal through development hell – but even though their endeavor was supported by the likes of James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, Zack Snyder, Kevin Eastman, and Gore Verbinski, all of whom were said to be on board to contribute segments to the anthology film at one point or another, they just couldn’t get the movie into production. So they shifted gears, dropped the Heavy Metal brand name, and created the animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots for the Netflix streaming service. Miller recently sat down for an interview with JoBlo’s own Steve Seigh, and during their conversation, he took a moment to look back at the Heavy Metal roots of Love, Death & Robots.

The fourth season, or volume, of Love, Death & Robots premiered on Netflix on May 15th. When asked if he thought they would get to oversee four seasons of the show when it started, Miller said, “No, I didn’t, but you’re always hopeful. I was so grateful just to have the chance because David and I really pitched Heavy Metal for so long, we just wanted to make that movie, which would have been a one-off with the hope of maybe making more. And that would have felt like an accomplishment. This feels like an accomplishment and a gift because we’re gotten to make so many stories, 35, and I really feel like we’re, in a weird way, opening doors in the industry.” You can watch this clip from the Miller interview in the embed above.

Miller and Fincher serve as executive producers on the series alongside Jennifer Miller and Joshua Donen. Miller is also the showrunner. The series has covered a variety of adult topics including racism, government, war, free will, and human nature. The anthology collection spans the science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy genres and each short has a unique animation style: from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI. The creators were assembled for a global calling for best in class animators from all over the world including artists from France, Korea, Hungary, Canada, and the US among others.

Are you a fan of Love, Death & Robots, and are you glad that the idea of rebooting Heavy Metal evolved into this series? Take a look at the Tim Miller interview clip, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at Eyes of Wakanda, the animated Black Panther spinoff series coming to Disney+ this summer. The show comes from Todd Harris, who serves as showrunner and director, and he said Marvel let him go “hog wild” on the series.

I really liked the idea of everyone’s view of history,” Harris said. “The story starts off during the end of the Western Bronze Age, and that spark sets off this giant spy-espionage story that reverberates through time…. You get Wakanda-grade James Bond, and sometimes a Jane Bond, with the backdrop of all the awesomeness that is Wakanda.

You can check out some first-look images from Eyes of Wakanda below.

Eyes of Wakanda

Eyes of Wakanda is a collection of short stories from different time periods of Wakandan history, which Harris refers to as “anthology adjacent.

We have characters that are very important in the show, but it also examines what kind of person Wakanda makes,” Harris explained. “A 10,000-year-old society. What kind of fortitude, what kind of lack of temptation to over expand? All these different things to keep things from imploding, all these different things that have been the detriment to a lot of history…how did they avoid that and what kind of person does that make? What kind of rock-solid principles keeps them on the straight and narrow that balance that’s so hard for everyone alive?

The series will feature the voices of Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as the Lion, Winnie Harlow (America’s Next Top Model) as Noni, and Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog) as one of the most “crucial” characters. Other cast members include Steve Toussaint, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, and Zeke Alton.

Harris teased that Eyes of Wakanda will be a “globe-trotting adventure” with a few surprises sprinkled throughout for Marvel fans. The series will debut on Disney+ on August 6. As for the live-action Wakanda, a few Black Panther characters are included in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and director Ryan Coogler is expected to return for Black Panther 3, which could feature none other than Denzel Washington.

T’Nia Miller has racked up an impressive list of TV credits in recent years, having appeared in episodes of Doctor Who, Marcella, Sex Education, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Foundation, The Peripheral, The Fall of the House of Usher, Generation Z, and Gangs of London, among many others. Now, Deadline reports that Miller has landed a major role in the Marvel’s Disney+ series that is either called Vision or Vision Quest. Miller is believed to be playing one of the leads of the series – and word is that she’ll be playing “the cunning and powerful Jocasta, who is driven by revenge. In the comic books, Jocasta is a robot Ultron builds to be his bride who eventually sides with the Avengers.

Paul Bettany will be reprising the role of Vision on the series. In addition to Miller, Bettany is being joined in the cast by Faran Tahir, back as his terrorist character Raza from the original Iron Man; James Spader, again providing the voice of Ultron; and Todd Stashwick as “an assassin who is on the trail of the android Vision and the technology he possesses.” Ruaridh Mollica is also in the cast, and while the casting announcement said he would be playing somebody named Tucker, many fans speculate that he could be playing an older version of Tommy Maximoff, one of the twin sons Wanda Maximoff and Vision had on the Disney+ series WandaVision. Joe Locke played an older version of Tommy’s brother Billy Maximoff on the show Agatha All Along.

Bettany previously played Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and WandaVision.

The series is expected to follow Vision as he tries to regain his memory and humanity. Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas is the showrunner. Matalas was joined in the writers room by fellow Star Trek: Picard writers Chris Monfette, Cindy Appel, and Matt Okumura, plus Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager writer Michael Taylor.

Are you looking forward to Vision (or Vision Quest)? What do you think of T’Nia Miller being cast as Jocasta? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

OnePlus thrives on trends—if other smartphone makers are doing something, you can bet OnePlus is going to have a take. The company recently confirmed it's ditching the storied alert slider in favor of an Apple-like shortcut button called the Plus Key, and that's not the only trend it'll chase with its latest phones. OnePlus has also announced an expanded collection of AI features for translation, photography, screen capture, and more. OnePlus isn't breaking new ground here, but it is cherry-picking some of the more useful AI features we've seen on other phones.

The OnePlus approach covers most of the established AI use cases. There will be AI VoiceScribe, a feature that records and summarizes calls in popular messaging and video chat apps. Similarly, AI Call Assistant will record and summarize phone calls, a bit like Google's Pixel phones. However, these two features are India-only for now.

Globally, OnePlus users will get AI Translation, which pulls together text, voice, camera, and screen translation into a single AI-powered app. AI Search, meanwhile, allows you to search for content on your phone and in OnePlus system apps in a "conversational" way. That suggests to us it's basically another chatbot on your phone, like Motorola's Ask and Search feature, which we didn't love.

A man who made global headlines after he continued sharing deepfake porn in defiance of an Australian court order is now facing one of the biggest fines ever threatened over the artificial intelligence-fueled abuse.

Australia's eSafety commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, has recommended a fine between $400,000 and $450,000, The Guardian reported, suggesting that it's warranted to deter other repeat offenders.

Fifty-three-year-old Anthony Rotondo, who divides his time between the Philippines and Australia, was ordered to take down AI-generated sexualized images of high-profile Australian women that Rotondo posted on the now-defunct Mr. Deepfakes site.
