I only developed opinions about apple varieties after we started having a weekly farmers market in my neighborhood, some time after we moved to Inwood. Before that, I about knew that I thought Granny Smith were too tart for eating but useful for cooking, liked Gala (which I'd discovered in a Minneapolis supermarket before they were widely distributed), and preferred Macintosh or yellow delicious to red delicious.
