I wanted to do something different on/with pasta. Hence, rotini and broccoli florets agli e olio, which is to say topped with lightly browned garlic and lots of olive oil. The recipe I found called for sauteeing fresh parsley in the oil along with the garlic, but we didn't have any. (I didn't decide to do this until late afternoon, well after we went out shopping.)

With that, we had little mackerel filets, cooked quickly in more olive oil and topped with fresh ginger. (Also a bit of dill, but I could barely taste that.)

Next time, maybe a bit less garlic, and parsley or maybe fresh basil.

Which reminds me, the three of us had pho for lunch on Friday (at Le in Harvard Square, "formerly Pho Pasteur" as it says on the menu), with lots of fresh basil, and it was very good indeed.

That all sounds really good. And maybe not too hard to make?

It does sound delicious!

I would think that dill wouldn't work well with the ginger, though. I like mackerel. The only real fish markets we have any more are Chinese ones. I'll have to drag my husband to one of them and try to get my hands on some mackerel. I remember how good it was, cooked simply in a spicy tomato sauce.

Seattle Pho

Did you ever have pho on one of your visits to Seattle? Than Brothers (http://www.thanbrothers.com/aboutus.html) is our favorite, with tiny cream puffs delivered to your table gratis as soon as you sit down. Do you have the resolve to delay eating them until after the soup? The brothers' mother was the original pastry chef, I also like the way they do the iced French coffee with condensed milk, delivered to the table in an individual drip coffee unit, not all pre-mixed.

Re: Seattle Pho

We don't have any pho restaurants in the city anymore. I tried the Salvadoran restaurant that took the place of the last one, but it's not as good as some of the other Salvadoran restaurants.
