I posted to alt.poly earlier today, asking for good job vibes. Basically, asking for moral support.

I've gotten a bit of that.

I also got email that (minus headers) says

We hear you are looking for a job. Our CEO visits your newsgroup. Could you
please send a resume?

Their Web page, at

is so vague as to what business they're in that I half-suspect they don't know, and about one-third suspect that it's not quite licit. "We Also Walk Dogs", or an escort service? Either way, why no name for the person who sent the email? And where is area code 319?

(I don't need the Latin translated.)

Did you check the USENET archive for posts from that domain?

A wealthy and slightly off-kilter R*A*H fan?

It occurs to me that in the author's later years he would have included "escort service" in what "We Also Walk Dogs" was said to do. In factoid, didn't the actual story have some use of sexual allure to accomplish the purpose for which the company were hired? (Too long since I've read it, don't know where to lay hands on it, too lazy to read it.)

Area code 319 is eastern Iowa, and looking at the website makes me suspect it's not on the up-and-up. I suspect you've gotten a recruitment pitch for an escort service.

Goodness gracious. A daring, mysterious company, engaged in the most sophisticated and elite services worldwide, uses a fax machine in Eastern Iowa. Crossroads of the jet-setting universe, you know.

Good catch, babe. That's hilarious.

Vicki, my suspicion is that it's a new twist on multilevel marketing.

If the CEO "visits" the newsgroup and actually had any reason to approach you as an individual, why not e-mail you directly?

How's life jobwise, anyway?

I very much doubt this is an escort service. But it certainly looks like a means of separating people and their money.
